Wikistage Empow’her Conference in Paris

On the 16th of April Women for Education participated in a conference in Paris hosted by The WikiStage Empow’her, a forum for women’s empowerment. The event aimed to raise awareness on gender equality and communicate what is really at stake in terms of closing the gender gap. The conference attracted over 400 participants and Women for Education was invited to the event as Wikistage Empow’her wanted to highlight us as an inspiring initiative that promotes female empowerment in the world. Women for Education was one out of ten global charities that was invited to show how diversified approaches can contribute together to reduce those inequalities. In addition to the charities, prominent professionals, dedicated to empower women, were invited to speak. Charlotte Werner, associate principal at McKinsey & Company, presented interesting statistics from McKinsey’s initiative Women Matters. Women Matters is a research project initiated to explore the role women play in the global workplace, their experiences and impact in senior-executive roles, and the performance benefits that companies gain from gender diversity. The results of the research showed that companies with more women on top position perform higher, especially in terms of financial performance. To see the speech and the statistics follow this link. http://www.wikistage.org/why-more-women-at-the-top-means-better-performance-charlotte-werner-wikistage-empowher_b45ae6d1e.html

Shannon Galpin, founder of the NGO Mountain2Moutain and author of the book “Mountain2Mountain:A Journey of Adventure and Activism for the Women of Afghanistan” referred to a well-known quote in her speech:

“I always wondered why somebody didn’t do something about that and then I realized I am somebody”

The purpose of the event was to get more citizens and communities involved and encourage them to speak up for women worldwide. We are grateful that we got the chance to participate in the conference. We saw people and organisations that really make a difference and we are now inspired to put more work into Women for Education and make sure to educate girls as soon as possible!
